NWWA Racing & Recreational Sailing, May 2019

Thanks to Joanna Gawkowska we have a great range of photos showing the action on Sunday 26th May. We'll start with the racing photos - 2 sets of gallery images. Then move on to recreational sailing and another 2 lots of gallery images.

Eight prospective competitors turned up at a wet and windy Watergrove by 10.45am. The 1st race started just before 1130 on a fairly short figure of eight course, so 3 laps were planned. However, the strong gusty winds wreaked havoc, made uphauling 7.5m race sails extremely strenuous, and the majority of the fleet retired. Only Dave M completed the course ,shortened to two laps , with youth Johan Kidger coming in 2nd on his Techno, by completing one lap. After a break to allow most sailors to rig smaller sails, a 2nd two lap race was run before lunch. Dave M, still on 7.5m, again dominated, followed home by Mike Escreet and Geoff Ryan in 2nd and 3rd. After lunch the course was changed due to the wind shifting more NW, to provide a better upwind beat. The wind was still strong and gusty, with a large wind shadow at the western end providing a further challenge. In this 3rd race Mike Escreet was well in touch with Dave M on the first lap, but a mistake on the second upwind beat saw him drop back and gift Dave M a third win. Final results:

  • 1st Dave Martin
  • 2nd Mike Escreet
  • 3rd Geoff Ryan
  • 1st Lady Viki Packman
  • 1st Youth/Techno Johan Kidger

We've had a camping query for the weekend. We need to apply for permission before we go ahead. Who is interested and committed? Please advise before tomorrow night.

Also if anyone finds a tesco bag with a large wetsuit and boots in it, can you post in here. I may have left them at the club on Sa****ay evening.

MikeS - 19/08/2019 - 20:48

If anyone spots two small keys outside around the club, please put them in the foyer, and advise. Member of public lost them, no other info. Many thanks. Mike
