NWWA Racing 30th July 2017
Thanks to David Brown and Mike Stemmer for giving up sailing time to man the safety boat during the racing and run the starts. Thanks also to David Kerr who, in spite of his current health issues, made the journey over from Preston to help out, and did a sterling job running the galley at lunchtime.
The number of racers was disapointingly low, with several regulars absent due to holidays or ill health, but the six who did turn up enjoyed mainly fine weather with the wind building throughout the day. Wind direction was fairly stable throughout, and the WSW-SW direction allowed a course to be set utilising the entire lake, with a long upwind leg from mark A to mark E, and a zig-zag of three reaching legs back downwind. Two of these were very broad, and gave demanding sailing when the wind picked up and backed to SW. As usual, four races were completed. Viki Packman was first lady, only narrowly beaten by Geoff Ryan for third overall. Ralph Sibley was a consistent second, with Dave Martin enjoying a very succesful day with four wins to take first overall.
The good wind forecast also atracted half a dozen club members, who enjoyed some good planing conditions throughout the afternoon.
