Fleetwood

1st July 2017 was a great day's sailing! Eight of our members descended on Fleetwood and had a cracking time in a Force 4 Westerly. That's cross- shore. Better still it's flat water due to the sand banks and mussel beds that flank the wide sailable area beyond the mouth of the RIver Wyre. Our crew had sole use of the water - no other windsurfers and no kite surfers. Not exactly hot at 18C but the sun shone.

Sailing was from 1.5 hours before low tide to about 2 hours after. Well, seven of us managed that but one always arrives late - can you guess who? All sails were around 7.5 to 7.8m. Wider boards gave an early planing advantage when the wind was marginal, but most of the time planing wasn't a problem. Some scraping of fins went on around low tide but that's really just us not knowing the area well enough - it's a huge sailable area. Eddie reckons he managed to bury his fin a full 6 inches, but at least mud isn't so hard on kit. We sailed all the way out to the derelict Wyre lighthouse much of the time. That's 2 miles offshore. Most reaches were about a mile. The battery contacts on my GPS are playing up so it only managed to record the first 1.5 hours when the wind was a bit lighter at times. I clocked about 23 miles in that time, so the total for the session must have been over 40 miles!

Most of us adjourned to a cafe afterwards for tea, bacon barmcakes or similar fare and to compare tales of the day. Two enjoyed the sailing so much they stayed the night and hoped to do it all again the next day!

The group shots are taken from about 1/2 mile away!

I don't believe BBC's weather anymore. Going with XC's forecast. Be there after lunch. Anyone else out?

3 of us were up Sat aft. Good session despite thunderstorm (which we sat out!) - plenty of planing. xc got the forecast right; Met Office said less wind.
