West Pennine Windsurfing Club – a few points from our Annual General Meeting on 7th April 2018
16 members attended the AGM.
Membership numbers are up, following falls in numbers for the previous two years – we ended the year on 68, plus 11 juniors and 4 model yachters.
Club subscriptions will remain unchanged for 2018/19.
The Club will finally get a permanent power supply! UU propose to run an electricity cable from the water treatment works to the club in May/June 2018. It will run under the centre of the road across the dam, so will disrupt our access for about one week.
West Pennine will continue with the Thursday ‘Club Night’ in June and July that it started in 2016, but with a likely minimum wind threshold, say 15mph or other value to be agreed. This is aimed at people of all levels. WPWC committee and members will be present to open up, supervise, help with rigging and have the safety boat available. The Shoutbox on the Club’s website will confirm whether a session will or won’t run on days with less wind forecast – subject to interest in other activities and whether members want social activities such as a barbecue instead.
The committee is now - Dave Martin (Chairman), John Lymer (Secretary), Mike Stemmer (Treasurer), Darren Kell (Membership Secretary), Susan Benbow (Welfare), David Stewart (Model Yachting), Andy Pepper, Dean Ball, Jason Yeomans and Dave Monks. Keith Partington has unfortunately had to give up model yachting. David Kerr and Paul Norman have decided not to continue on the committee.
The meeting recorded David Kerr’s long and valued service to the Club in various roles and the committee will consider how to further recognise this, such as through Honorary Membership.
Various other topics were covered at the AGM, but we'll save those for the official minutes of the meeting.
The meeting was followed by an excellent lunch prepared by Paul Norman and from now on we’ll all get to use the electric oven which Andy Pepper has just installed – luxury!
The planned working party was postponed due to rain - we’ll arrange another date.
